[my ofrenda missing a few things!]
What type of bruja would I be if I didn't share my plans for dia de los muertos? This year I'm hoping to get a little more involved with the hispanic community in SLC. There is a dia de los muertos event being held downtown at SATURDAY OCTOBER 27th 11-6!
EVENT INFO HERE - Tickets are $5 with kids under 12 free.
At home I have my altar set up. My husband didn't have time to finish my wooden altar so I'm making do with what I have. I will have fresh marigolds displayed and my Santa Muerta statue. I have my offering and my momentos for those who have gone. This year I have tributes to a brother in arms, my abuela,, and my abuelo.
We're having a small fiesta at our house with a few other couples and I'm really excited about it. I'm making fresh tortillas, some small appetizers and we will be having pan de muerto, lots of tequila and cerveza, and I'll try to have some other traditional treats too! I think it will be really fun.
For the community event I'll paint my face and I have the most incredible headdress that I made.
Even if you aren't someone who celebrates dia de los muertos, I invite you to learn a little bit about the Mexican tradition of honoring those who have gone before us, as they walk the earth with us in spirit.
Dia de los Muertos (day of the dead) starts October 31st and ends November 2nd!
