I thought it would be fun, since I'm starting to move out of "newlywed" territory to share some of my experiences for those couples who are soon to be, or freshly newlyweds!
First up, THE WEDDING REGISTRY.
What do you do with it once the wedding is over? Forget about it? Look longingly at all of the things that you didn't receive? I'll share with you my tips to maximize your registry.
#1 - ONLY REGISTER FOR WHAT YOU WOULD BUY YOURSELF -
This is my biggest tip, so many couples register for all kinds of extravagant things that they hope someone buys for them and then they never use their registry again. Not us, we registered at TARGET for only stuff that we want/would buy ourselves.
#2 - TURN IT INTO A SHOPPING LIST -
See how that works? By registering for 100% attainable stuff, we were able to buy everything off of our list after our wedding, it took a couple of months, but we got everything we wanted and needed, plus it made it so easy just to have it all in one place. Some stores even give registry discounts or cash back.
#3 - SEND THANK YOU CARDS & MAKE A LIST OF WHO SENT YOU A GIFT -
This may be a no-brainer to some people, but in the wedding/honeymoon hustle just be sure to get a pack of thank you cards. ALSO! It helps to keep a list of friends and family who sent gifts, I married into a big family and time to time they ask about how I'm liking X and its nice to update them, send them pictures of whatever you received or even tagging them in an instagram picture featuring that awesome gift.
#4 - DON'T FORGET TO BE THANKFUL IF YOU GET MONEY -
A lot of my husband's family send money and it was a little awkward for me to be like, hey thanks for the cash. So I tried to word as, thanks for contributing to the honeymoon fund, or thank you for loving our little family!
#5 - ABOVE ALL, ENJOY STARTING THIS NEW CHAPTER OF YOUR LIFE!
